Release of the Week
Hey I didn’t think I was going to have a release of the week post this week as I didn’t have much time or energy to check out too much from the latest batch but I found some time for a few and one has jumped out so I thought I’d throw up a quick one.
This week I am crowning ‘Bioluminescence’ by Dawn of Ouroboros as champion. They are a band I’ve always been meaning to check out but haven’t really gotten around to.
The California four piece come with a long list of genre tags including progressive, post-black and death metal. Whilst that does sound like a mixed bag I’d also say it pretty much nails it. There’s the tremolo picking, the harsh black metal riffing, the pummelling of death metal but there’s also expansive and beautiful sound scapes at play here.
The music is great but the real standout, for me at least are Chelsea Murphy’s vocals and the range they display. There’s some lovely clean singing interwoven with impressive extreme metal pipes that help to match the different musical textures.
If you’re into the technical and progressive end of metal then this is definitely worth your time.
Hails!
