Hails and Ales Club

Release of the Week

This past week was certainly a good one, it was also the busiest release week of the year so far. More releases inevitably means more competition for release of the week.

It’s been a tough choice to is week. I was able to narrow it down to two releases pretty comfortably out of the ones I managed to make time for but crowning a winner between those two was more difficult.

As a result I’d like to give an honourable mention to ‘Profane Altar’ by Act of Impalement. It’s a great release and one I’ll probably come back to a bunch but alas it is only the runner up this week.

So without further ado, this week’s shining star and release of the week goes to ‘Festering Nihilistic Hatred’ by Misanthropic.

The debut full length from the Arizona four piece is a grand entrance for the band on the death metal stage. With so many bands fighting for room on that stage it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd. Misanthropic aren’t doing anything particularly new but what we do have here is an absolutely top notch display of how to do Old School Death Metal.

I might be biased because OSDM is my absolute favourite flavour of extremity in music but this does the thing I love to an excellent standard.

The infectious groove laden riffs make this an absolute pleasure from start to finish. There ain’t much filler here buddy! I’m going to resist going into a track by track and instead just say to give this a spin yourself and at 39 minutes, it’s a good length!

Also who doesn’t love a death metal cover? That’s right, everyone does love them and the album ends with a cover of Electric Funeral. What’s not to love?

This one will be getting many plays from me and may feature in a certain list at the end of the year. Also how about that artwork.

Hails!
