Release of the Week!
This week I’ve decided pick an album that is a lot softer in many places than what we are used to here. I was close to picking the new Phrenelith but so much death metal will grace these pages over the course of the year I have decided to look elsewhere.
Often labelled as a cross between post metal and black metal, Canada’s Unreqvited have returned with their 7th full length album.
The band have been around since 2016 but I have to admit that I was not very familiar with much of their previous work and have only found them relatively recently.
Whilst there are still your black metal elements here, the band have leant heavily into the post metal realm and create a lot of beautiful and often haunting atmospheres. Coupled with an increase in the clean vocals which helps to give the record more textures, this is an album that I have found to be a perfect late night listen.
If any of the above sounds at all appealing to you then I strongly suggest you give it a go. It’s heavy in places before pivoting to heartaching beauty at others. Come drift into the darkness!
Hails!
