Release of the Week
Look I know that this was a pretty good release week and there were some highly anticipated albums released, Cradle of Filth being chief among them. However, and let me say that I know that I am ridiculous, but I have always had a soft spot for Lordi.
I liked them before they burst on to the stage by winning Eurovision in 2006. In my defense though, I was 14 when I discovered them and they were playing metal dressed as monsters.
So I have decided that although there were other good and worthy albums out this week (shout-out to Rancid Cadaver who delivered some solid death metal) I am going to go with the album that I had the most fun with. That just happens to be 'Limited Deadition' by Finnish Monster's Lordi.
Yes its cheesy, yes its glam, yes they have kept the interlude tracks that range from advertisements for monster action figures to wrestling events and I enjoyed it all. With song pun based titles like 'Skelephant in the Room' and 'Killharmonic Orchestra' you know what you're getting. The important thing here though, is that beyond the gimmick and the fun titles, there are riffs, there are solos and there are some really good songs.
I also happen to think that this is the best album they have released in years. Well, the best Lordi album in years that I have heard, they release so much it can be hard to keep up. Anyway, this is good, this is fun and I enjoyed it so it gets my vote as release of the week.
Hails!
