Release of the Week!

Look I know usually I would pick an LP as release of the week, and usually it would be a release that is actually you know, released that week. But it’s late December and pickings are slim, besides this weeks selection is a physical release, so what if the digital came out two weeks ago. Buy physical media.

Anyway, excuses out of the way. What I wanted to talk about this week is the debut EP ‘Primordial Master’ by Blistering Rot. The 4 piece out of LA features ex Skeletal Remains members as well as touring members of Blackbraid and Go Ahead and Die.

This is straight ahead, old school death metal. The lead guitars are scorching. The rhythm section is tight as hell. The drums sound amazing whilst the bass rumbles along dutifully. This is four tracks, plus an intro, that anyone who loves OSDM should check out. Morbid Angel fans I am looking at you.

Once the intro is out of the way, the whole thing just rattles along with such an unforgiving pace. I know nothing about the influences that this band hold dear but after listening to the last track ‘Praise of Death’ I’d put good money on the fact that they have heard a few Slayer albums in their time.

One aspect I’d love to spotlight here too is the production. Stick this on headphones and for a debut EP this sounds phenomenal. Guitars weaving from ear to ear whilst the drums sit front and centre pounding your skull as the dark Lord intended.

Christmas has come early as I’ve found another band to keep an eye on. If this is what they can offer from their first EP, then this is a band with serious potential. I can’t wait until I can give release of their week to their debut album.

Stream it on Bandcamp but you can’t buy it, unless you have a spare $666 dollars that is.
