Death Metal Demo Dive 2
It’s time for the second instalment of our dive into the murky waters of death metal history, in our demo tape submarine. Let’s get right into it, I promise we will leave Sweden alone for this week at least…
For our first release we are in Texas, USA and a band called Necrovore. This four piece released two demos, starting with this one in 1987. I’ll start off by saying I really really liked this one. It’s fast and furious, they clearly love Possessed and maybe even Bathory, and for a demo recording the vocals are fantastic. Very easy to see why this band have a cult following. This is my favourite of the 6 we have covered so far.
Although I haven’t heard any of them yet, there’s a couple of bands who’ve decided to cover this which you can find on Bandcamp if you should choose.
Our second release is our first, but definitely not last, to hail from Finland. Released in 1991, this was the bands only release. Right off the bat I’d say that the intro track on this is far too long. At over a minute and a half it loses the intended impact as far as I’m concerned. After this though we are ok solid ground. This has all the hallmarks of some classic death metal. Truly evil sounding! Fans of Morbid Angel should check this out.
As well as being on YouTube. This one also has a Bandcamp link!
Hey, they have such a death metal pedigree that I’ve decided to stay in Finland. Our final release of this dive was released in 1991 also. Good year for Finnish death metal? Big fan of this one too. I really like the raw demo feel which is highlighted by the fact so think I heard some feedback in there too. Nothing to stand out about this, just some solid death metal done really well and at just over 10 minutes this gets many repeat plays. The artwork is sick too.
This one also has a Bandcamp link and although most of the tracks are currently unavailable, I’ve linked it just in case that changes.
Let me know what you thought of these releases and leave a comment
Hope you are continuing to enjoy the journey with me.
Hails!
