Album Rankings: Misfits
I’ve posted a few of my personal album rankings here so far and I’ve covered alternative/indie rock, death metal, thrash metal, grindcore and some straight up rock n roll but one thing I’ve not touched is any form of punk.
So without further ado I’ve decided to change that by ranking the studio albums of Misfits. Some people are Danzig purists but is there more to life (and The Misfits) than that?
Now ordinarily I’d stick the 1996 box set on but that simply won’t cut it for these purposes so here is my ranking of the studio albums from least favourite to favourite.
Hails!
- Project 1950

Misfits style punk covers of 1950s and 60s rock and roll songs. Interesting idea that doesn’t really deliver.
- Devils Rain

Much maligned. I understand why but I’d rather this than the previous album. It’s got some decent stuff on it but it is entirely too long.
- American Psycho

First album post Danzig. It’s good. Not the best but some solid stuff.
- Famous Monsters

This is the first Misfits album I ever heard. I loved it then and I love it now. It may not be the classic lineup or sound but there are some all time greats on here.
- Earth A.D.

This is classic Misfits but with a bit more of a hardcore edge. Has some of the big hitters on.
- Walk Among Us

Not too much to say about this one, a great band on great form. Some might argue this is number one and they might be right but right now I disagree.
- Static Age

The first Misfits album to be recorded but not released until years later. This is the best they ever sounded. Just vintage Misfits
